History

Pintubi Homelands Health Service (PHHS) is located in the community of Kintore (Walungurru) 530 kilometres west of Alice Springs. The population is about 450 persons. Pintubi Homelands Health Service provides primary health care and acute emergency medical care to the residents of Kintore and the surrounding homelands. Access to Kintore Community is via 140km of sealed road and 390km of unsealed road from Alice Springs via the Tanami Road or by air. Public transport to the Kintore is provided by a twice weekly air service and weekly bush bus. An all weather bitumen airstrip was opened in 2004.

In 1981 the Pintubi people came back to Wulungurru their traditional land and established the community of Kintore. The Pintubi Homelands Health Service (PHHS) was established in 1982 and has provided a continuous primary and emergency health care service to the people of Kintore and the surrounding area. The Health Service is controlled by a locally elected Health Council. A new clinic was opened in May 2003.
